Theoretical Implications of Directionally Asymmetric Transparency

چکیده
Transparent segments have been a well known challenge for accounts of patterns long distance agreement, such as vowel and consonant harmony. Two standard ways to account transparency are autosegmental feature spreading with underspecification (e.g. Kiparsky 1981; Steriade 1987) Agreement by Correspondence (ABC; Walker 2000; & Rose 2004; Hansson 2001). Both, however, fail derive the multiple instances encountered in Tsilhqút'ín (Cook 1993; 2013). Here, non-retracted dorsals act both transparent opaque process retraction, depending on which side trigger, retracted sibilant, they located. On other hand, sibilant harmony, sibilants forced agree retraction. I propose superset approach that combines ABC: All because outside correspondence relation. At first step derivation, not specified allowing them be regressive later step, negatively hence able block progressive

Internally architectured materials with directionally asymmetric friction
Internally Architectured Materials (IAMs) that exhibit different friction forces for sliding in the opposite directions are proposed. This is achieved by translating deformation normal to the sliding plane into a tangential force in a manner that is akin to a toothbrush with inclined bristles. Friction asymmetry is attained by employing a layered material or a structure with parallel 'ribs' inc...
متن کاملA theoretical model of asymmetric wave ripples.
The time development of ripples under sea waves is investigated by means of the weakly nonlinear stability analysis of a flat sandy bottom subjected to the viscous oscillatory flow that is present in the boundary layer at the bottom of propagating sea waves. Second-order effects in the wave steepness are considered, to take into account the presence of the steady drift generated by the surface ...
متن کاملHonesty, candour, and transparency: clinical implications
In advance of a medical conference on the duty of candour for medical ethics educators, this paper discusses the duty of candour as a significant development in the culture of medicine. Those who teach medical ethics need to assess its implications for their own practice. It is also a duty that needs to be critically examined in light of both patients' interests and clinical work environments i...
متن کاملEconomic Implications of Information Transparency in Electronic Markets
This chapter explores the private and social desirability of information transparency of a business-to-business (B2B) electronic market that provides an online platform for information transmission. The abundance of transaction data available on the Internet tends to make information more transparent in B2B electronic markets. In such a transparent environment, it becomes easier for firms to ob...
